Even in today's high-tech information world one time-tested message still rings loud and clear: Quality, clarity, and correctness count.

At EMR, we stay on the cutting edge of information management-whether it's publishing a report or designing World Wide Web pages using the latest desktop publishing and photo enhancement technology-through continuous research and hands-on experience. But the heart of our approach, whatever the medium, is simple: clearly identify the message to be sent, and package it in the most effective way for the intended audience. When you add to this our abiding commitment to quality, our attention to detail, and our full range of information and publications services, you get true "one-stop shopping" for all your publications needs.

Our staff of editors, writers, graphic artists, desktop publishers, information management specialists, and Web editors has designed and produced literally hundreds of publications, ranging from technical reports to posters to marketing presentations to home pages, for satisfied clients-clients who count on EMR to get their message across, and who come back to EMR after they see the impact of a carefully crafted presentation.

Writing, Editing, and Research

EMR has edited and researched hundreds of reports, handbooks, training aids, policy documents, newsletters, and journal articles for clients such as the U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and General Services Administration (and for the vast majority of these publications, we have also designed and produced them as well).

Often, the task involves interpreting highly technical and specific information for a lay audience. For example, the Energy Star Buildings Manual EMR helped develop for EPA shows building owners and managers how energy efficiency can be profitable. And GSA is distributing Energy Management: A Program To Reduce Cost and Protect the Environment and Water Management: A Comprehensive Approach for Facility Managers to its facility managers throughout the country. Both of these EMR-produced handbooks describe advanced technologies in an easy-to-understand manner- and in terms of practical benefits and drawbacks that the audience can relate to.

For DOE, in addition to editing the final reports of two Secretary of Energy Advisory Board task forces and the biannual National Energy Policy Plan, we prepared summaries of more than 75 energy technologies and some 120 laboratory research projects as annexes to those reports. Other editorial products for DOE include reports on telecommuting, reformulated gasolines, energy supply disruptions, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Graphic Design and Illustration, Page Layout, and Prepress

EMR's abilities to effectively convey a client's message or findings go beyond writing and editing to cover the entire publishing process, from word-processing and transcription to document design, page layout, and graphic design (including graphs, tables, and other, more complex types of illustrations) on through scanning and manipulating photographs and preparing camera-ready copy or electronic files for printers. We have designed, illustrated, and produced scores of documents, from the National Energy Policy Plan to the 1,000-page proceedings document Opportunities and Challenges for Natural Gas; from the Secretary of Energy's Annual Report to Congress to reports for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the EPA, the U.S. Department of State, and the interagency U.S. Country Studies Program.

Marketing and Outreach

We know how to identify and develop the most appropriate communications techniques based on the client's product and the intended user of that product_whether it's a new technology, software application, or energy-efficiency program. News releases, promotional articles, logos, brochures, advertisements, technical monographs, fact sheets, briefings, multimedia presentations, and web sites are just a few of the tools we have created in developing campaigns and design themes for the National Electrical Contractors Association's NECA Connection hotline and Contractor/Utility Partnership Program, the DOE-National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioner annual conferences on natural gas regulatory issues, and EMR's own OptiSave and PerforMax programs.

World Wide Web

In addition to developing our own Web site in-house, EMR has developed sites for the DOE's Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative and the National Lighting Bureau. We also now regularly post our clients' reports to their respective Web sites and are familiar with both the HTML and Adobe Acrobat on-line publishing methods.
